Google Reader is Gone; C'est la Vie

Just a quick reminder to let you know that Google Reader will be no more as of Monday, soooo if you haven't found an alternate way to view your blog feed, now's the time to choose.

There are many options, but as for me, I chose to use Bloglovin'.   What do I like about Bloglovin'?
  • I can keep up with the blogs I choose to follow.
  • I can create categories for all of my blogs (i.e. arts and crafts, food, lifestyle).
  • I can share posts directly from Bloglovin'.
  • There is a free app available for both Android and iPhones.

I'm not too picky about which way you choose to follow, but I just don't want to lose any of you.  However, if you choose Bloglovin', then you can click on the button below or the button on the right side of this screen to follow this blog.  :-)

A Girl Like Me

A girl like me

visits her aunt's house and discovers this bed of mint all overgrown

and runs back to the car to gather these,

so that she can uproot a bit for her mom and herself,

plant it at home, and cross her fingers for a good future crop and a free cup of tea!

p.s.  After these two pots, there was a long root of mint left, so this girl gave it to her neighbor to plant.

Cinder Block Garden 5-Day Update and other Garden Goodness

It's amazing how after just a few rain showers your garden can come to life.

I was so ecstatic to see that my lemon cucumber seeds had sprouted after the first rain shower and then this morning I noticed how after the second rain shower those sprouts had gotten a little larger.

In addition, I must have dropped a seed in the corner of the bed because I noticed that it too had sprouted since yesterday.

I think I will carefully relocate that loose seed this evening because, guess what???  One of my neighbors gave me some cantaloupe plants that she started from seed!  #randomkindness

I've never tried growing a fruit before but there's a first time for everything, right?

In other garden goodness, I finally planted my mosquito plant.  I really want a citronella plant, but this one will have to do?  What's the difference?  A mosquito plant's scientific name is "Pelargonium Citrosa" or "Pelargonium Graveolens" and does not contain the real citronella oil.  A true citronella plant is actually a clump grass whose scientific name is "Cymbopogon Winterianus" or "Cymbopogon Nardus".  So, I'll be on the lookout for the real thing, even if it means ordering.  In the meantime, here's the imposter that I planted.  Smells lovely.

And my geranium bloomed.
