The Beauty of Father's Day

Perhaps in the very beginning, this day was set aside to honor one's own father, but what I love is how this day has expanded to include other men, other father-figures.

There are so many children in this world who may never know the real meaning of a father from their own home experiences, but thankfully, there are good men out there who often fill that void.  These men could be pastors, teachers, neighbors, or simply other people's fathers.  And sometimes these men don't even have biological children of their own.  Yet, what these men, these fathers have in common is that they instruct, lead, and guide.  They understand the magnitude of their responsibility and strive to fulfill it.  They provide.

I was fortunate to have a few fathers.  Of course, my dad, but then there were a few other men that have been instrumental in my life.  Did they all serve the same purpose?  No.  Were they mirror images of each other?  No.  But each one was important to me in different ways.

So on this day, I encourage all of you that have these special men in your lives to tell them "Happy Father's Day" whether it be an uncle, a grandpa, a pastor, or your dad.  I'm sure that they would greatly appreciate it.  If my own dad were still here I'd surely be wishing him a Happy Father's Day on today, but nevertheless, I do have a few well-wishes for some others.  :-)

Happy Father's Day!

  2. I agree with Kar, very well put, my friend. I hope your day has been blessed. Thinking of you, Libby!
