Sharing the Joy of Planting

Sunday afternoon, a family from church came to eat dinner with us.  When this family comes, I try to have an activity planned for the two little girls.  Usually it's some kind of craft, but this time I told them we were going to plant seeds.  Their mom quickly told me that the girls didn't bring any play clothes, so I grabbed two of my dad's t-shirts and put them over the girls' dresses.  It was too cute for words to see how these shirts were so big on them!

After I showed them my little beans that were sprouting, they were convinced that planting seeds would be fun.  So then we went outside on the front stoop and began planting beans in a bowl.  I listened to stories from their preschool and first grade classes and watched how two sisters could show their different personalities even while completing this little activity.

The oldest one talked about any and everything, while the youngest one very quietly and meticulously completed each step.  It was amazing!  In the end, both girls had planted their seeds and placed them in the sun while we ate our spaghetti dinner.  I'll definitely be sure to check in with their bean progression.  :-)

Speaking of beans, here is the way my beans were on Sunday.

And this is what I noticed after work on Tuesday.  (Pardon the cell phone pic.)  Guess I need to find these babies a new temporary home before going into the ground.

Now, I need to plant this beautiful gardenia bush that was given to me.  Did I mention that before?  I just found the right spot for it in my yard.  :-)

Happy Spring,

  3. The girls must have loved this! The big t-shirts remind me of being a kid. In art class we were given big men's shirts as smocks! Your sprouts are looking good. :)
