Normally I don't post too much about my professional career, but I wanted to share this with you all. For the past two days, a co-worker and I have been attending a middle school conference. We were also fortunate enough to present at this conference. Our session was a full-house and the participants were genuinely interested in the topic, asked questions, and gave suggestions to each other. The topper on the cake was when a participant said that our session was the best session she had attended all day! (And we were in the last slot of the day which is often a difficult time slot because people get tired and sometimes skip the late sessions.)
Then afterwards we celebrated my co-worker's birthday at Carraba's - her favorite restaurant.
At the end of the second day, we attended a luncheon. Apparently I had been nominated and two letters of recommendation had been sent on my behalf for this award called "Teacher to Watch." Three of those awards are presented in our state - one for each region. And guess what? I won for the Eastern Region of my state. Words cannot fully express what I felt and still feel, not even for actually winning this award but even the thought that someone saw something in me worth recognizing and did something about it.
In addition, the conference was about 5 minutes from the nursing home where my dad is and I was able to see him both days. You know I had to tell him all about it.
