C25K - Week 5, Day 1

This morning I literally had to peel myself from my bed.  Had I earned the privilege of sleeping in?  By all means, YES, but did I need to sleep in?  No.  Although this is Labor Day and it should be a day free from labor, for me it will be full of labor so that I can actually have more time on the days that follow.  So for me, Labor Day is a "catch-up" day.  Despite the urge to sleep in, I got up and completed Week 5, Day 1's workout.

This workout consisted of 3 sets of jogging for 5 minutes, with 3 minute walks in between.  I decided to do a couple of things.  I downloaded a new play list with more upbeat inspirational songs.  I also decided to complete my route backwards, meaning I just ran the other direction, so instead of having that steep hill to run up, it meant that the first task was to jog down that hill.  Is that cheating?  Not really, there were other hills along the trail, and actually I feel like it gave me a bit of momentum to complete this workout.  I covered more distance and felt pretty good during the workout.  Normally on the Day 1 workout, I can hardly make it, I can't find my right rhythm, but today was different.

Now I will admit that during that last 5 minute jogging episode, I felt like quitting.  I even heard myself tell myself, "I can't do this."  But in my heart I knew I could.  I peeked at my time and realized I only had to jog for 25 seconds and then it was time for the cool down.  Seeing that time, gave me the strength to hold out.  :-)

I decided to try a chocolate protein shake today.  I did some reading last night about whether you should drink the shake before or after the workout.  Still not quite sure of all of what I read.  It seems like if you drink something with whey in it, you need to drink it prior to the workout.  Anyhoo, I drank a little before and a little after.  It was tasty, this drink will cure any chocolate attacks you may have, but I couldn't drink but half of this.  Save some for another time.  I'll get the rest of my protein elsewhere.  I'm making a Peruvian shrimp soup today.  Yum Yum.

  1. I have my own special tunes to get me through things. Makes a big difference. Very proud of you getting up and just doing what needed to be done. I for one am not doing that this morning. Maybe in just a bit. :)

  2. You go, girl! I am so impressed with how you are sticking to this program. I know it is hard, but you will be reaping the benefits of all your hard work for a long time. Keep it up and change it up if you have to. (just like you did today) Thanks for stopping by and leaving me a sweet comment about the Unexpected Delight post. It made for a very fun day. Have a great Labor Day. Hope you get everything done that you are wanting to.

  4. You have the best menus, Libby!

Keep up the good work! You are definitely inspiring me! Hubby and I didn't work out at all this past week. But I think the audit for him and back to school for me and the kids was enough of a workout for all of us this week, lol!

    1. You can do it. "Audits" is such a dirty word. :-)

  5. Good job Libby! Those protein shakes can be tasty. I used to drink whey protein shakes but with the high calorie content and my love for food I went back to eating the calories instead!
