It was cool when I began and the sun really showed himself after I was done. So I'm thankful for that. Twice my 5-minute jogging episode fell on the steepest hill in the cemetery. I just kept telling myself to stay focused and look straight ahead. Look at the top of the hill the entire time and soon enough you'll be there. It's amazing when you stay focused on your target, you lose focus on the things that keep you from reaching your goal.
This week my dad's church was in revival and I attended a few nights. If I haven't mentioned it before, my dad ran track in college and coached track and field in my younger years. He tends to use a lot of track analogies when he speaks. So he mentioned this week how you can be running hurdles, jump every one successfully, then get to the last one, get tripped up and lose the race. Then the guest speaker responded by encouraging us that if we trip over a hurdle in life, even when others behind us pass us by, to get up (don't stay there in your situation), and finish the race. I left revival feeling very encouraged.12 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2 KJV)
And last night I decided to complete my application for the Women's 5K event on October 6. I would love to have a friend accompany me, participate even, but I haven't found anyone. But this event is important to me and I've decided to go even if I have to go alone. I will be just finishing my C25K Plan and typically I would want a little time in between the completion and an actual event, but it's not about finishing the race first, it's about finishing. And since so many loved ones have been fighting this battle against breast cancer, I feel this is the least I can do. And I'll think of them as I cross that finish line. :-)
