Life As I Know It - Weekly Update #17

It's that time of year again.  Time to go back to work!  Summer vacation is officially over and I will be returning to my school, but this time as a 6th grade math and science teacher.  Last year I moved up to middle school and taught science and social studies.  I'm excited about this new opportunity and the chance to personalize my room more.

Even though work doesn't officially start for me until Monday, I've been going back this past week and getting my room set up.  Before I left, I did a deep cleaning of every nook and cranny.  Now I'm very thankful for that.  I rearranged the furniture (this is nothing new for me), replaced all the bulletin board paper with bright fabric - deep purple, lime green, and teal.  All of the bulletin boards have a new colorful chevron print border so that there is some consistency.  Having a fresh, colorful, organized space for students is very important to me, but only the tip of the iceberg for what I really do all year.  :-)

In the midst of preparing to go back to work, I've also been busy preparing for my grandmother's 80th birthday celebration.  She's going to be pretty in pink because everything is pink and white.  I'm busy this weekend trying to do my share - order the cake, decorations, get the programs printed.  Although her birthday was this past Monday, her celebration won't be until the 25th of this month.  I'll be sure to have pictures then.  That's my other responsibility.

Remember all my root canal stories this summer?  Well, what I didn't mention is that the endodontist was concerned about not only the tooth needing a root canal, but the one right beside it!  I've always had troubles with my teeth.  The curse of the soft teeth.  But anyhoo, I had a follow up appointment to have him check out the adjacent tooth and it passed the test (the Endo ice test) and so although he questions the xray, the tooth is very much alive so no second root canal.

However, as I was talking with him about everything else, non-dental related, I invited him to Skype my students and he agreed to actually come in and talk with them...after his triathlon.  So a super fit doctor he is!  How cool is that?

Finally, a friend of mine has been making her pins a reality and made me some homemade coffee creamer and pickled hot banana peppers.  :-)

Until next time,

  3. I wish you a great new school year Libby! It must be fun to customize the classroom. That is so cool that your endodontist will come and talk to your class. He will surely field a lot of questions!

Have fun with your grandmother's birthday celebration!
