Finding My Design Style

I have a room in my house that has absolutely no design style, no decor.  It's quite disturbing but for the life of me, I've not been able to hone in on how to decorate it.  I know that starting with an inspiration piece and moving from there is a good strategy, but I haven't been able to find the right inspiration piece.  I know the feeling that I want to invoke in this room, so for me that's a sort of start.

Well, I've been searching online to find a quiz that might help me find my style.  I ended up taking a quiz from The Home Stylist.  I answered some questions about clothes and furniture and a few other seemingly odd questions and these are the results for me:

Your style is Funky Eclectic.

Anything goes. You don't like matching anything. You have bought or obtain furniture very discriminately. You only have in your home what you truly enjoy. You like a variety of prints and textures but you usually have the artist's eye that makes it work well together. You have old and new furniture and accessories. You may collect and display items no one has heard of. When you entertain, you mix a wide range of people - the more diverse, the more entertaining. Some people just don't get your style but you really don't care. You may have grown up in a traditionally decorated house and now you want anything but traditional in your home. Your decorating challenge is to pull all your belongings into a cohesive look while keeping your eclectic style.

This assessment hit the nail on the head for me.  But now I understand why it's been so hard to decorate this room.  So until then, the room will remain disturbingly bare.

  1. This is my result:

    Your style is Romantic Victorian.

You love the look of lace and flowers. You like furniture placed in a certain manner. You like softer colors and patterns. You save your money to buy one or two stand out antique pieces. You love history and traditions. You know what you like and stick with it. When you entertain it is mostly close friends and family. You love candles and lots of potpourri. You like formality and prefer to invite people over rather than having them drop by. Your decorating challenge is to make men feel comfortable in your home.

Not a surprise for me. ;-)
And my man will never be comfortable in it, he already told me so. lol

  3. Maybe you should just start picking out stuff you love. I don't think you need to conform to any one style. I think if you fill the room with something you love it will somehow come together. Well well...according to your test, I'm modern and sleek. Never would've guessed.

  4. Great quiz! This is me except I do love to play with color. My bathroom is painted poppy orange!

    Your style is Classic Traditional.
You like things matching and well placed. You prefer classic colors such as navy, burgundy, forest green, and beige. You buy furniture that stands the test of time.

You don’t like trendy fads nor clutter. You keep a clean house. There are only a few knick-knacks but plenty of family photos. Traditions and family are important to you. When you entertain you invite close friends and family. You don’t like new things and are hesitant to try new colors or furniture placements.

You grew up in a very traditionally decorated home and that is what you are most comfortable with. Your decorating challenge is for you home to not be too predictable or boring.

I'm sure the inspiration for this room will come at the strangest time!
