Banana Oatmeal Smoothie

On the way to Ohio, my aunt was raving over this delicious banana oatmeal smoothie she makes.  She gave me the really short ingredient list and it just so happens that I had everything but the steel cut oats to make this recipe happen.  Until she gives me her measurements I don't know how her's tastes, but I couldn't resist trying it today.  Soon I'll be asking her to measure while she makes hers so I can compare it to this one.  Until then, here's what I did today.  If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to comment.

Banana Oatmeal Smoothie

1 medium banana, cut into slices
1/4 cup steel cut oatmeal
1 cup Very Vanilla Soy Milk
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
3-4 ice cubes

Blend all ingredients until smooth.  (Approximately 1-2 minutes)

That's it!  If you try it or again, have an alternate recipe, please share.  I'm looking for some more healthy smoothie recipes to give my body a break from the traditional Southern breakfast meals of bacon, eggs, and grits; sausage, eggs, and grits; bacon, egg, and cheese...Ok, you get the point.  :-)


  1. The smoothie sounds delicious! Currently I've been having a handful of raisins and a handful of nuts for breakfast. I'm amazed at how full I feel and how much enrgy I have.

  2. That smoothie sounds good. I'm looking to buy a new blender so I can make smoothie for breakfast too! I like having a southern breakfast every now and then. It's so good. I love grits! I eat it a lot with apple sauce and butter!

  4. This is a nice morning smoothie, I'll definitely give it a go, lol! I've been into smoothies for quite some time already, and I'm really loving every new recipe I'm discovering over the net. What so great about it is that I've influenced my kids into it, too! As of now, they're really enjoying fruit smoothies, no veggies yet, :)
