Fruity Goodness

I recently purchased some fresh fruit. I need to eat more fruit so I decided (after visiting a friend who makes really healthy, tasty fruit juices) that I would try and make fruit drinks like smoothies. The first one that I made was the strawberry banana smoothie. You can see that one in an earlier post. Yesterday I purchased some frozen blueberries and decided to make a Banana Berry Shake. It was pretty good. One of my Flickr contacts said that she made herself eat fruit with breakfast and within the year, she had modified her way of eating and felt better for it. She even uses her fruits as substitutes for desserts.

I don't have a real specific goal such as hers, but I just want to increase my fruit intake in a way that I know I would have the discipline to maintain. Vegetables is next. :-) In the meantime, here's a pic of the fruit I purchased. I'm glad now that the basket is emptying itself and not being wasted.

Banana Berry Shake


Recipe modified slightly from Mr.Breakfast.com:

Ingredients:
1 cup of ice
1 cup of berries (I used strawberries and frozen blueberries)
1/2 banana (frozen)
3/4 cup of yogurt (I used vanilla - not frozen)
1/2 cup of milk (I used 2%)
a couple of drops of agave

Directions:
Blend all together until smooth.

Tip: I put all the frozen things in first and the other ingredients in last. That way I used my icebreaker mode on my blender to break up the frozen ingredients before blending.

* In the original recipe, it's a protein shake so the recipe calls for a protein powder or an egg white.
