Yo llore...

I was browsing through my Flickr contacts and I saw a caption that read:

"Yo llore porque no tenía zapatos hasta que vi un niño que no tenía pies"

Translated, this means: I cried because I didn't have shoes until I saw a boy who didn't have feet.

It's amazing how we complain about so many things when in fact we have so much to be thankful for. When I was at church this morning, a visiting preacher was speaking on this briefly. He admonished us to separate our needs from our wants. He also asked us to reflect upon the goodness of God. He told us to think back 10 years ago. Think back to what it was that we needed. Now think about today. Are those needs met? Did we take time to thank God or did we overlook it and just complain about even more things that we face today.

I looked at this minister because he was crippled. His legs turned in and were twisted. He walked with the support of two crutches. Yet, this very man said, "Don't feel sorry for me. I can do everything that I need to do; I just have to figure out a different way to get it done." He let us know that there were more people that were in worse shape than him so he had no right to complain. How many of us would think that way? Would we complain that we couldn't walk or drive or would we make the most of it, being thankful just for life?

The truth is that no matter what situations we have going on in our lives, no matter how bad they seem to be or really are, we still have no right to complain. Then when we look at the example of Christ, how he bore the iniquities of the world on His shoulders without complaint - and He wasn't even guilty - we definitely have no right to do so.

I'll admit that this is an area that I need to work on. Am I alone? :-)
