I've Got Some Starter, So Let's Get Started!

I was working diligently on the job today in my isolated workspace when one of my coworkers came knocking. She was trying desperately to share some of her Amish Cinnamon Bread Starter that she had been feeding over the holidays. She was looking for one last person who didn't mind baking. And she found her - ME! I was so excited that I literally jumped from my desk and gave her a hug - which really isn't unusual for me. I'm a hugger! (I better work on that though because I do it without thinking, but I digress.)

So I'm pumped about getting this starter because I've wanted it for years but didn't know how to *create* it so to speak and didn't know of anyone who already had it going. Fortunately I won't have to wait very long to see the fruits of my labor because when I received the starter it was on day 6 - which reminds me, I've got to feed it before I go to bed tonight. After I feed it, I've got 3 days of just mushing the bag and then on the fourth day I can split my starter to have three to share with my friends and one to make the bread from. I've already started scoping out who I can give my starter to.

I know this will be some good bread, but you know I'll keep you posted - with pictures and all! Now I've got to find something quick to cook and go feed that bag!

  1. I know my English isn't very good but I don't really understand this: you have to feed the bread?? Is it really just bread or something else called like that? You keep me in tenterhooks :D

  2. Oh *feeding* the bread means that you add things to it to make it active, like a yeast. So on yesterday, I *fed* the starter (or batter) a cup of sugar, a cup of all-purpose flour, and a cup of milk. Then I squeezed it in the bag to mix it together. Each day you either have to feed it or squeeze it to make it activate. You'll begin to see little bubbles in the bag so you know it's working. I hope that helps. :-)
